Senior Engineer - Human Factors (Contract) | Southern sites (Frimley / New Malden / Broad Oak / Filton)

We're recruiting for an experienced Human Factors Engineer to support major maritime/defence engineering programmes, focusing on human-centred design for complex command and control systems and equipment. You'll be working in a multi-disciplinary environment, collaborating with engineering teams and end users to shape safe, operable and usable design solutions.

  • Role can be based from one of the following southern sites: Frimley, New Malden, Broad Oak, or Filton

  • Hybrid pattern: typically 1-3 days onsite but can accomodate once every 2 weeks
  • \n
  • Possibility to only work a 4 day week

  • Contract length: 12 months
  • \n
  • Engagement: Inside IR35
  • \n
  • Rate: £60.00/hour PAYE or up to £81.05/hour umbrella
  • \n
  • Clearance: BPSS required, with SC in progress / in flight
  • \n
  • Hiring: 2 headcount
  • \n

What you'll be doing

\n
    \n
  • Deliver Human Factors input across the engineering lifecycle for maritime/defence systems
  • \n
  • Plan and run HF activities (stakeholder engagement, reviews, workshops, trials)
  • \n
  • Apply methods such as task analysis, performance assessment and HF design techniques
  • \n
  • Produce high-quality deliverables (reports, presentations, metrics) to time/cost/quality expectations
  • \n
  • Promote good practice in Human Factors Integration and human-centred design
  • \n
  • Identify and manage risks and issues, escalating when needed
  • \n
  • Support capability development through knowledge sharing and mentoring
  • \n

What we're looking for

\n
    \n
  • Defence Human Factors experience (maritime exposure preferred)
  • \n
  • Strong understanding of applying HF principles within a systems engineering context
  • \n
  • Experience designing/running HCI usability trials
  • \n
  • Familiarity with MoD Human Factors Integration approaches/standards
  • \n
  • Tooling exposure such as Axure RP and digital human modelling (e.g., Jack)
  • \n
  • Degree in an engineering/science/technology related discipline
  • \n
  • Human Factors / UI/UX / psychology qualification preferred (plus chartership progress and UX cert are desirable)
  • \n
